The mission of the Miami Dade College Latin Jazz Institute is to teach, explore, create, foster, and celebrate the styles, traditions, and artistry of Latin jazz music and musicians in partnership with the diverse and talented music community around the globe.

The MDC Fall Fest celebration will bring together a host of Latin jazz greats for a free concert at the Kendall campus on November 21, 2008. The roster includes:

Ed Calle's latest solo recording, In The Zone, released by Union Music Group and distributed via Warner Brothers Records, has been nominated for a 2007 Latin Grammy for Best Instrumental Record. In The Zone is a live, straight-ahead jazz recording featuring Ed's original compositions Mockingbird and Voyager and jazz standards including Joe Zawinul's Young and Fine, John Coltrane's Impressions, Errol Garner's Misty, and Brunislau Kaper's Invitation. The recorded performances feature outstanding collaborations with pianist Jim Gasior, trumpeter Jason Carder, bassist Rafael Valencia, guitarist Lindsey Blair, and drummer Jack Ciano. The recording is now available at your local record store and cyberspace music vendors. In the Zone is also available on iTunes and other Internet on-demand music retailers.

In addition to duties associated with being an Associate Professor of Music Business and Technology at Miami Dade College, Ed has completed all of the coursework for a Doctor of Higher Education Leadership degree at Nova Southeastern University, has begun the dissertation process, and is finishing production of his newest record featuring all new original Latin jazz compositions and arrangements. Additionally, Ed has also composed and arranged new original music recorded on the soon to be released Miami Saxophone Quartet CD.

Ed Calle's newest CD, In The Zone, has been nominated for a 2007 Latin Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Album. This is Ed Calle's 2nd Latin Grammy nomination.
