Twenty-first century online learners enjoy educational delivery flexibility that enables them to learn in synchronous and asynchronous environments. Synchronous educational environments require that the learner and instructor meet at a predetermined time and at the same location. Asynchronous online courses offer students opportunities learning opportunities independent of times and locations. Understanding the scheduling challenges facing all of us living in a 24/7 world, the lessons offered enable students to explore areas of interest in a format most convenient for them.
For those choosing the synchronous environment, lessons are available at
the following times:
Monday mornings between 10:00 AM and 12 noon
Wednesdays between
12:00 Noon and 2:00 PM
Fridays between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM
Saturdays
between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM
Students choosing asynchronous lessons must contact Ed in order to determine a schedule and design a lesson curriculum that meets your needs and enables us to exchange the necessary information and materials in a simple yet effective manner. Both synchronous and asynchronous students will benefit from the use of recording devices that facilitate the production and distribution of digital audio files. Asynchronous learners must be able to record themselves and deliver the performance via the Internet.
In order to best disseminate information and assess progress, all students should stream or submit high quality audio or video recordings. Software including Garage Band, Pro Tools, Digital Performer, Propellerheads Record, or any number of other titles enable us all to produce 44.1k Hz, 16 bit digital recordings. Podcasts and good quality video produced using a digital camera will also enable us to exchange ideas and explore areas of interest in an effective manner.
I will be communicating with you via Apple's iChat using Pro Tools, professional microphones, and web-based materials. Due to the fact that this is a new endeavor, improvements will be ongoing. Apple's iChat can communicate with people using a wide variety of instant messaging software. Once we have arranged the lesson time or parameters, we will test the communication services in order to work out any issues in advance.
In order to best
serve customers, discounts and additional materials will be offered whenever
challenges impact our work together. Additionally, I will record each lesson
and provide you an audio copy of the lesson for your records. Often, one
lesson will provide a workload lasting multiple weeks.
Obviously, students must have access to the
Internet, a computer with speakers and an internal microphone, and a computer
camera. Additionally, students will also need to install Adobe
Acrobat Reader, the Sibelius
Scorch plugin, and Apple's iTunes and Quicktime or Microsoft
Windows Media Player. Students will also need a music stand, metronome,
tuner, and a CD, MP3, or minidisc player. Additionally, students are encouraged
to purchase the Amazing
Slow Downer software.
Most lessons material will be distributed via PDF, HTML, and MP3 formats.
